Heck, your guy could have used the cone washer and a rollpin

I feel for ya Jim . I run into the back wood repairs all the time , my latest head shaker was the normal broken off foot peg bolt with a twist . They drilled a hole and jammed a large concrete cut nail in the hole .

someone I think most of us vets have seen thing kind of stuff before quite a bit. it sucks and costs you 5Xs what you paid for the item originally but in the end some of it is useable. my initial thoughts are to remove everything around the area all those usable parts then go in with a grinder or cutter and cut it. the crank is trash and so is that housing, so that needs replacing, but if done right you may be able to salvage everything else including the case half.

if you already got it, then sorry for adding.

It is truly amazing what some people will do. I've seen plenty myself. Some of these things are very easily fixed "correctly" with just a slight amount of ambition. I swear, some people put things together with "stupidity" when the right "hardware" is right next to their left knee! After it's done, they look at the right "hardware" and say "what are these for?" and throw that remaining "hardware" away. I'd like to say I'm at a loss for words in those situations, but the truth is, I have a lot of words that I can't put here....you know what I mean....

I wonder if the person who did that actually thought they were creative and thrifty ?
    Damn.
