Question Preparing old plastic for camo wrap?

Instead of painting my old plastic on my Yamahauler, i'm thinking about buying the camo roll bulk vinyl wrap and putting it on my plastic. Has anyone done this and how much prep does the surfaces need? My plastic is terrible, its corroded and faded, you can scrape off the deteriorated "scum" with your fingernails.

What should I do to prep it so the vinyl stays on? I'm looking at the permanent vinyl, the 3M type that uses a adhesive but the supplier instructions speak of degreasing and cleaning with a wax/grease remover and doesn't really address old corroded plastic despite being described as being acceptable putting on plastic surfaces.

    Thanks!

Honestly,I'd paint it. The camo wrap will look amazing. But getting it to stay on anywhere past a year or so will be hard. Good luck!
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

ALWAYS buying Museum quality machines,3 and 4 wheels. And any and ALL ,NOS parts,EVERY brand.

I guarantee all that sun baked scum plastic will have to come off to give the adhesive something solid to stick to. Think of it in the same way as if you were painting something, if you were painting a dusty piece of metal, every hit would dislodge the dust, taking the paint with it. So I would imagine every branch that scrapped the wrap would knock the under laying scum, giving you spots of wrap that don't stick & only grow.

If you don't really care, just paint it. If you want to wrap it, clean it with soap and water and use the good stick on stuff, not that cheap crap that peals after a while. Other than that, you can bring it to someone who does hydrodipping. It is way better than that stick on stuff.
But if you do hydrodip, i would get a new set of fenders in white for best results.

coming from a guy who has done all that you would like to do , i have some answers . the plastic could be sanded to knock of loose shards of dried up plastic . 3m makes a adhesive primer called primer 94. its on ebay, use it! also when u wrap around the fender to the under side use super glue to lock it down. a heat gun will help u apply it. do not I REPEAT do not paint plastic. what does work is plasti dip . and if it gets torn up spray some more. and if it starts to look bad peel it off and reapply. heres examples of both. hope this helps.

THE PLASTIDIP HAS BEEN WAY TOUGHER THAN I THOUGHT AND HAS LASTED PRETTY WELL, AND THEY MAKE A ARMY GREEN. BUT DONT SPILL GAS ON IT.
