Set your preload low and bring your forks up through the trees. I've seen flat track bikes with a tie strap going from the swinger carrier to the grab bar also. You can do that if the back end still isn't low enough from lowering the preload

I have a spare spring and I thought about doing the redneck lowering kit and cutting some off the spring.I'm not gonna be jumping it but I want atleast a bit of cushion.

I lowered by taking out the spring spacers out the forks and dropping the forks 3 inches. The rear I just backed the preload off til the spring started to come loose. I was extremely surprised how much the rear suspension still functioned very well and should be low enough for your needs as long as you have an axle/spacers.
The preload trick works good.I think I still want to strap it just to keep things snug.

If you are lowering to screw around the strap might be okay.If you are entering a event it may not be allowed.Google search lowering a 350x.You will see something like "Gerauld's 350x".That is what I do for ice racing.
Is this the link you're talking about?

Yes.I added a spacer in between on the shock also.
