    Resto question

What is the best way to get all of that baked on dirt and grease off of the fins on your jug and head, and your engine cases, ....without having to split the cases...is there any miracle cleaner that just dissolves it?

I used a plastic wire wheel for the drill the other day on mine. It worked great, I also used a product called marine clean, but spary 9, or simple green would work great too I imagine.

Heated pressure washer would ideally work. But i dont have access to one. So what i use is stuff called purple power from my local Auto Zone i think. Something as simple as dawn dish detergent with a degreaser works well too. Either way itll take some elbow grease, but dont give up. But i think a degreaser is a must.

I used a long bristle brass brush, for removing paint etc, get one thats long enough to reach all the way in and you can scrub it out good and the brass is soft enough it won't remove much of the aluminum just clean the surface.

I use oven cleaner a lot, cuts through almost anything. Just gotta make sure you don't leave it on to long.

I use oven cleaner as well(easy off), but I don't use it on raw aluminum cause it will cause it to oxidize.

When I was cleaning up the 28 years of funk on my project SX I first used a bunch of different degreasers combined with a pressure washer to get most of the crap off. But, I found there were still some crap that wouldn't come off. It's going to sound funny but I used wd40 and a bristled brush and it worked killer, especially in between the fins. What ever is in the wd40 breaks down the hard packed dried up mud. Worked great for me.
