Big red is stuck in gear, ahhhh!!

i just paid 800$ to have my 83 honda big reds motor all pumped up, powdercoated and gone thru
i put it it back in the frame and went to start it and noticed the electric start was weak, the it was amazingly hard to pull (it does have 12.5 to1 compression tho)
i went to push it back in the garage and realized it was in gear, and the shifter was froze made a tick sound when i tried to shift it, any ideas? im ready to finally ride this thing not work on it!

Try rocking it back and forth while pulling up on the shifter to get it to pop into neutral, you might have to do this a few times depending on what gear its in. If you can work it up to neutral rocking it then your ok, if not then there might be a shift drum stopper issue or the clutch isn't adjusted right, etc.

Did you say you paid someone to work on it? Sounds to me like they may have more work to do

I am no sure how that shiftshaft and shifter mechanism works on that engine. It may be that a thrust washer was left out, or, installed incorrectly (wrong side of shaft). If the shifter mechanism is anything like the Big Red, 350x, etc... It could be that there is a "dog" misplaced in the mech. Another possibility is that the shift forks were installed incorrectly. Could even be that the shift shaft fell off it's guide pin and is bound up from the cover pinching it.

first off the big red shift pattern is all up to neutral on the 200cc big reds, and all down on the 250cc big reds. so that i hope helps you. now did you rebuild it, or did someone else rebuild it? if you did not properly align something then something inside the case could be binding. you have to use different sized shims to properly set clearance gaps. when i do a motor and split the cases, i end up splitting and reassembling and splitting again about 5-6 times to get it how I want it.drives my son nuts on his race motors. LOL. he gets bored watching me (he's 10 so they get bored easy anyway).

if someone else rebuild it, they need to work on it, something is not right. it sounds like they did not properly seat the gear selector section of the shifter drum and it is causing binding, but that i a guess. i see that a lot on motors.

i did pay a shop to do it, he had to split the cases to powdercoat the motor. it cost me 800$ i guess ill take the right side cover off and look first. is there of steps i can go by before i have to pull the motor and split the cases, thats a huge job!
