started my 84 250 atc rebuild and look what i found!

Ok first off here is my story. I had two 84 atc250r given to me and one of them ran and was mostly complete and the other one was seized up. I tore apart the running one first and wanted to make it a nice rider that was almost 100% original except the 350x headlight and newer bars. I got it all stripped down and pulled the head off and was amazed to find a messed up piston missing one ring and a messed up cylinder but it still ran! So i then decided to pull apart the seized engine and found out it wasn't seized in the cylinder but instead the crank case was locked up. I then noticed the cylinders and heads were different so i measured and im pretty sure the good head and cylinder is a 300R!!!??? Here is what i started with and the bad piston.

Also how did i luck out and have both swing arm bolts slide right out? I have heard horror stories of them being seized and not coming out.

I just lucked out big time with these two 250r's. But the buddy that game them to me owed me just a bit. I built him a baja race truck to race and gave him a super rare diesel Landcruiser diesel pickup for free so in the long run we both ended up happy!

Now this weekend im going to pick up a 310R second gen and a 250R first gen and a first gen missing some of its parts and in boxes. I love it when a plan comes together! Im also dropping of the frame for powdercoating and the tank and some plastic parts will be getting painted soon. Any idea on a paint code number or name for the Honda red?

Got it all stripped down and the frame is sitting at the powdercoater and i should have it back next week. I am amazed at how good of shape this ATC was. So much of the paint looked great and hardly and damage except the rear corner of the frame and the upper exhaust mount. Here is a pic of my old Honda stable and one of my favorites even though its on 4 wheels my old 350trxd.
