ID:	186887I picked up a 84 200s for cheap the other day. When I talked to the guy he said it started fouling plugs during the deer season. That it ran great a couple of weeks ago during the cold snap but now wont run more than a minute without fouling the plug. With a new plug it fired first pull,it sounds strong and no smoke out the exhaust. I figured no biggie sounds like the carb. I gave him his $100 and brought it home. Now when I started tinkering and went to change the plug I found that the plug is wet. Put in a new one and again it fired right up rode to the end of my driveway and it quit. Pulled the plug and its wet. I searched the threads but didn't find anything about wet fouling. So I was hoping someone could help me out or point in the right direction. Its starting to feel like an atc graveyard with my sx down and now this one

Check the fuel screw, 1-1/2 turns out is about normal.

Check for air blockage intake or exhaust.

Check the choke and confirm it is working properly.

Check to see if someone fiddled with the carb, check float height for sure.

Make sure someone didn't pull the slow jet and leave it out.

Make sure the jet needle is secured and not floating up and down, check clip position.

    Post your findings.

You have to narrow it down to spark or fuel. GENERALLY,,85% of the time. After cleaning, recleaning, and rebuilding a 200S carb. You will realize the slide/venturi are worn out and you simply get a new carb. That being said, yes, troubleshooting all of the above is in order. They also Love to rust up the stator/flywheel and sometimes a good sanding/cleaning has her running like new. But go through the carb thoroughly and see if it clears her up.
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

ALWAYS buying Museum quality machines,3 and 4 wheels. And any and ALL ,NOS parts,EVERY brand.

try raising the clip to lower the needle, common problem is the needle seat gets worn and should be replaced

Thanks guys I will tear into her today and let you know what I find.

Update: It's been a busy day so not much time for the trike but figured I would try a long shot and loosen the gas cap. I have had trouble with them in the past. Well it fired right up and ran great, no bogging and ran strong through the full range of throttle and gears. However the guy told me it ran good during our last cold snap and it was -12°c here today. It is supposed to warm up this week so I think I will see if it starts screwing up again. If it does I'll start checking everything. Thanks again guys

    another tank vent mystery?
    or the elusive intermittent issue?
I like to know what the problem WAS! and sometimes when they DO run, it STLL p(*&^%%es me off because I'm just not sure.
Another reason I try one fix at a time.

Glad you got it running. Pay no attention to my rant above. I'm batting 1,000
on ineffectual repairs in this lousy weather.

Oh I know. I certainly wont be taking it any further than I'm willing to walk. I will be going over everything just for piece of mind but would like it to be 20° warmer. My 250sx is looking pretty neglected right now. Lost the gears in her a couple weeks ago. Sure its probably a bent or broken pin but dont like working on stuff outside in the snow. Gotta get my garage finished.
