jeez..... if my memory serves me correctly, I do believe that would be oils with high levels of ZDDP

cut these out of some plate I had lying around. I have no idea the type of steel, most likely mild. what are your thoughts on hardening and tempering these plates? I am leaning toward not. Was originally thinking on making them folding because most of my riding is rough woods and mountains, but since no cut and weld, i obviously couldnt go that route.
the stock pegs weigh aprox 2.4 lbs a piece the roll pegs are maybe 2.2 without the adapter. with the plate they are aprox 3.5 lbs. Was thinking of mounting with some grade 8 bolts, if its unnessesary I may use stainless.
These pegs are from an 04 and up yfz450 if anyone was wondering. I also cut a plate frome some aluminum, it is still rough, and my bandsaw did not like it, I had to keep cutting a piece of steel to clean out the teeth, maybe some lube would help. But I just dont know about the strength of it. I dont know what type of aluminum it is. I will post some pics when I get them finessed, painted and mounted up. having a problem with the lower peg bolt. First 1/2" moved like butter, then it hit the corroded portion that hangs out the back of the bung! Freezes right up solid. Gonna end up pulling the other peg and soaking it from the other side most likely. I think that side will come off lol!

Cold as a witches tit out in the garage lately, not much desire to go out there!!

    Well,

The most popular stainless steel is Type 304, which contains approximately 18 percent chromium and 8 percent nickel. At room temperature, the thermodynamically stable crystal structure of 304 stainless steel is bcc; nevertheless, the alloy's nickel concentration, as well as the small amounts of manganese (about 1 percent), carbon (less than 0.08 percent) and nitrogen (about 0.06 percent), maintains an fcc structure and therefore the alloy is nonmagnetic. If the alloy is mechanically deformed, i.e. bent, at room temperature, it will partially transform to the ferritic phase and will be partly magnetic, or ferromagnetic, as it is more precisely termed.

    - click on the 300 or 400 series to find their properties and magnetism.

Good eye barnett, I actually was planning on addind that third bolt, just gotta check shifter clearance, and determine drillability (is that a word) of the peg plate!

was thinking that. Probably better if they do bend anyway.

Please read post 19. Most stainless bolts are between grade 2 and grade 5 hardness. Do nbot use them.

You will NOT be happy if they bend either because your foot still may hit the ground when they do, not good. As I suggested, chromoly.

sorry but I am unfortunately unable to reply to this comment in the manner that it deserves because I have been told this is a “family friendly” site.

I would also go with 1 size thicker especially because they have a lot of leverage on them they way you designed them. Believe me, I have bent a few peg brackets before.

I don't think you need much, but, definitely never use hardened steel on a part that needs to bend, not shear.

I have templates (let me know Rory) to make 450F pegs fit a bit forwards and 10mm down, for taller people. They will accept ANY 450R or F peg out there.......

I bought 2 new 450F pegs, bolted them on and felt like I had a super grip on that peg which is great!!

roll pegs are mounted!! Look killer. Havnt ridden yet with them, but they feel good sitting. Brake and shifter clearances are perfect. grade 8 peg to plate, 10.9 metric into frame. Added that third bolt. As soon as my body heals i'll give a ride report!! Also took off the new hondaline headlight gaurd that was mounted, and put the DC line gaurd on. I think the white looks sweet. also a fender support from a member. have a new 10" wheel to mount, but being I hope to get one more ride with the balloon 4-snows, I think the tall tire will work better. thanks for looking.
