If it was previously titled. I would contact that state and see if you can get a duplicate title.

In WI. You don't need any title or sales receipt to register a machine. Just make up a name and your done in 5 minutes with title and trail tags in hand. Everything I own was bought from Rusty Shackleford as far as the DNR knows.

Well... You joke. But that may be what you end up doing. Some states go through the DMV, some through the DNR, or equivalent offices. California may be a place to start, but then again, how do you know those plastics came from that machine?

An option. Get a frame with title and do a fresh rebuild.

You answered your own question. It has a CALIFORNIA license on it.... I would start there. Google CA ATV DMV or something to that effect and call them with the VIN. If it wasn't registered there. Ask them to run it through the stolen list. At least then you may be able to sleep better and go from there. Good luck and welcome .
Please help those who cannot help themselves.

ALWAYS buying Museum quality machines,3 and 4 wheels. And any and ALL ,NOS parts,EVERY brand.

When I bought my sx I had the mto run the number and they said it wasn't registered here (ontario). What I needed to do was take it to a dealership and have them confirm that it was what I said it was on their letterhead. Then I was to do a sworn affidavit at the town hall. Then they would issue me an ownership. After doing this I went in to get it all done and low and behold it showed up in the system. Someone punched in a wrong number when I had it checked the first time. However it all worked out. I need to do this with my ktm as well this year it was never registered either .

Did you complete a vehicle import as it entered Canada..commonly called an RIV? Or did you just bring across in the back of a pickup?

If no RIV then you're screwed and will never be able to get it licenced in any Canadian province..even with the US title!

This is a road I'm very familiar with!!

Looks like im screwed.

In Maine and New Hampshire, we don't require a title for vehicles that are over 15 years -- cars/trucks/motorcycles/boats.

Did the guy in New Hampshire every register the trike? If so, his registration *is* the title.

If he didn't, there may still be an avenue for you to pursue in Vermont.

The 15 year or older thing is just regarding the restrictions on importing vehicles..not anything to do with licensing.

NB MV isn't 'hassling you', why do you think they would do that? These rules are to prevent people from importing a stolen vehicle into Canada and BSing their way into getting it registered. Not to piss you off!!

Get a title from it's last registered owner and a bill of sale and you're golden..otherwise it will live and die in Canada as an orphan.

In NV a dealer VIN inspection with a bill-of-sale and statement of facts notarized that says the title is lost or it never had one (and a check of course) will get you a title.
Another option might be to have a buddy in the states title it for you then sell it back to you.
There are also companies in the states that will help you get a title for your motorcycle for a fee, I think they do something similar to the above?

Its the same as what cap said in Ontario. The DMV even gave me a sheet with the info that needed to be included on the sworn affidavit. If it was never registered it was pretty much the same info needed compared to if it was lost. In my case when they ran it the second time it came up registered. They made me buy the used vehicle info pack to get the name of the registered owner. Then I had to make an effort to contact him ( which I couldn't of course )This info was included in my affidavit. Now that Im thinking about it when it came up registered it cost me $25 for the info pack to get the owners info but I didn't have to get it verified by the dealership which would have cost $30

Well I wish you luck. Must be different province to province. Alot of guys here just go in with the vin and get the used vehicle info pack to get the registered owners name then get a bill of sale. I guess this only works with previously registered stuff though. I havent bought to many toys that came with an ownership though especially the older stuff. They seem to get lost over the years
