A heads up for you guys that shoot russian calibers: 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r

Our dear President has announced sanctions against certain "Individuals and entities operating in the arms sector in Russia". Now speculation as to whether this means that the US will block or ban the importation of Russian/combloc surplus and new manufacture ammo is about 50-50, with some people saying that's not what these sanctions mean and others saying that sooner more than later soviet ammo will be blocked from import.

My experience today has shown me that people are gettin a little freaky about it. Both calibers appear to be flying off of the shelves at online suppliers. If your stash of these calibers is getting low, I would advise picking up some before the panic sets in more than it has.

    Better safe than sorry.

ETA: That means brands like Wolf, Brown Bear, Silver Bear, WPA (wolf Performance Ammunition), Ammo manufactured by/in Barnaul, TulAmmo, Golden Tiger (If that's still around)

Oh sure I was just thinking about buying an AK47. Maybe I'll have to get an AR instead.

Yea, it's dirty stuff, but it's cheap compared to some of the domestic stuff. It works fine for punchin paper, cans and Tannerite. I need to get set up for reloading those 2 calibers.

A fair amount of .223 around and the price is coming down a bit. Get an AK in .223

Brass cases for boxer primers are readily available, and berdan primers are also available to replace the originals. I don't do any reloading, but my old man has been doing it for around 50 years and has all the equipment. It's one of those things I need to get him to teach me before he's gone.

It's a little bit of a pain in the arse, but it can be done. Converting to boxer primers:

I've bought some 7.62x54r brass in the past and had him reload it for me, and then I kind of let it fall by the wayside because I got busy. Might have to start buying that and x39 again too.

Doesn't Remington make and sell those sizes here? Good thing I've got a few thousand boxes for the AK and SKS.

A few thousand BOXES or a few thousand ROUNDS?

yea Remmy and Winny both do. So do a couple of others, but.....

At Sportsmans Guide Remington 7.62x39 123 gr sells for about 150.00 for 200 rds,Winchester is about 175.00 for 200rds

Wolf 7.62x39 123gr sells for about 125.00 for 500 rds

For just general plinking I'll take the cheap stuff. If I was reloading then I'd opt for the Remmy or Winny since I could reload the brass.
