I ABSOLUTELY love and want a '85 - '86 Honda 250R ATC(wife says no - we will work on that later
) Anyway, just curious - what is the top end speed in OEM form??? And with performance mods??? These things look fast just standing still. Thanks BK3

Hey there and welcome.
A 3rd gen R (85-86) will top out around 70mph in completely stock form.
With mod?? Well there really isn't a definitive answer on that. You can build alot of HP with these machines and the sky really is the limit with so much aftermarket support still around.
But an example of the fastest I have seen so far, a 431 CPI Puma big bore set up for 1/4 mile asphalt. He ran 113mph in 1/4 mile and there is video proof of it. If I recall his member name was bannedbrap or something like that. His 250r was VERY purpose built for running 1/4 mile asphalt. Off the top of my head, to build just an engine like his would cost you at least 5k, probably closer to 8k.
So, what does the wife have against the 250r??I have 2 and they haven't killed me yet!

I'm jealous, my friend. Had the chance to buy a one owner '86 250R back in the early 90s' . Test drove it (slowly) and was scared of it. Never bought it (kicking myself now) Bought a '84 250FL Odyssey instead. Still think about that mint '86 250R - kinda like the hot girlfriend that us guys used to date - where are they now type of thing??? LOL

You know how wives can be, brother. I have a '84 200es. She believes one is enough. Then I hear "you already have enough toys in the garage". If a clean '85-'86 250R comes my way - I will make it happen. If that is yours in your avatar - BEAUTIFUL, my friend. Stay safe - BK3.
Oh yes, I am all to familiar with the classic wife defense of "you have enough already"...
Between my S&W revolver collection (that I just keep finding that 1 more I NEED", my trikes, and some other things I'm constantly in and out of the doghouse! LOL!
And yes, the machine in my avatar is one of 2 I have. It is an '85 with an ESR 350 big bore with quite a few supporting goodies. Thanks for the compliment.![]()

I have made a good handful of trips 250/300 miles (one way) for a good deal. Farthest i ever went was 400 miles one way for a Yamaha. I will never sell that bike. Good luck on that liquid R!

UPDATE - in case you are interested. Seller contacted me - engine never rebuilt - runs strong, all OEM plastics - no cracks or breaks. Original chain and tires. Stock OEM exhaust. Not raced - nothing missing. Never stored outdoors. All original OEM tools, owner's manual and paperwork included. Purchased new in 1987 from local Honda dealership. Planning to make the trip this weekend to view. Like a kid waiting for Christmas morning. BK3
