Help Please!!! What offset will fit the 1985 Honda Big Red 250es

Hello All new to the forum here.

I just bought a 1985 Honda Big Red 250es and I would like to put a more aggressive tread on it. I would also like to change out the rims. The problem I am having is I don't know what kind of rim I can put on the front without it affecting the brakes and causing the tire to rub. Any light you guys could shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

The stock wheels are 9" wide with a 3+6 offset. So if you had a 7" wide wheel (most modern ATV wheels are) you need a 2+5 offset.

Stonewall thank you for your reply however I am trying to avoid the rubbing issues that you have encountered (I also don't want to use a spacer . I understand how the search tool works and actual read the threads you posted but avoided them because of the rubbing issues you'd mentioned. Also I believe the stock rim offset is 3+5 not "3+6" (http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/Bu...kage/723/31259).

I don't have any rubbing issues, I just can't run fork boots with the Vampire in that particular size. The size I'm running is (I think) one of the widest ATV tires on the market. Other sizes ain't a problem. 25x12-12 Vampires and 26x12-12 Mud Rebels and Anclas fit with no problem. And no, it is a 3+6. The stock wheel is 9" wide (I own over a dozen of 'em); offsets are measured as the hub side+front side. 3+5 equals 8, which is not equal to 9, so thats impossible on a 9" wide wheel. My recommendation is a set of 26x12-12 of whatever you want on a set of 7" 2+5 wheels. That combo will work fine on a stock 250ES.

I've had good luck with rear rims all the way around from an 05 trx 400, they're 11x7.5. The front needs a slight 1/8 inch shim to center it perfectly.

I have a fair bit of experience at this as I have had a great deal of fun experimenting with tire/rim combos for the ES and SX machines..

The rim you are looking for is off the shelf, cheap and don't need to be shimmed to get the front offset right. The ITP Steel 12x7, 2+5, 4/110 rim is a direct fit for the Big Red..it can be found at many retailers for about $35/rim

Then you can experiement with a multitude of different 12" tires..I like the 26x12x12 for rear and the 26x8x12 for front. BTW, when you install the front tire, if it has a directional tread be sure to mount it on the rim as a right side tire to get the tread direction correct for the front.

Thanks for that link I have been searching the threads for something else and saw a pic of a really nice 250es all done up and loved the way those look. It might have been yours Since then I have not been able to find them so that just made my day

dougspcs, I'm going to be getting new tires and wheels for my 85 Big Red 250ES, I want to go to 12" just like the ones you suggested (ITP) steel. I can use 3 of those wheels and put 26X8X12 tires on all 3 with no issues correct?
I understand running a wider tire in the back but is it necessary? Just looking for some opinions, Thank you!

So I should be good running 3 of the wheels you suggested with 26x8x12 all the way around on my 85 250ES right? is it just a preference to have the bigger back tires? and do the rims change width as well? thank.
