If you're out riding and the power band goes out, you can slip a rubber band in there and usually make it home. I always carry a bag of rubber bands when I ride.
Hello niftylittleguy;
Since you are new to the Tecate’s [the greatest high performance 3 wheelers ever made], I thought you might enjoy reading a few comments from someone that beat the factory Honda riders on numerous occasions and whom also won several major overall Championships including the Mickey Thompson Series in 83', 84' and 86'. I also included a video and a few photos I thought you might like.
Excerpts from an interview with Jimmy White.
“If you are into performance 3-wheelers (why else would you be here?) then the name ‘Jimmy White’ is probably well known to you. Jimmy is nothing short of a legend, not only in the 3-wheeler community but throughout the ATV world. One of the top competitors during the 80′s, Jimmy rode his Kawasaki Tecate to so many wins people lost count.
Q - If you could build what you would deem ‘the ultimate three wheeler’ and could have any part from ‘back in the day’ to build it – what would you use?
JIMMY - Each year the changes made to either the production Honda/Kawasaki etc or race bikes helped tremendously. My last 86 factory Kawasaki was amazing.
Q - Any drawbacks of being on a factory race team?
JIMMY - The only drawback that I can think of was that Kawasaki was not able to practice on the national tracks the day before the race weekends like Honda did. They were a major sponsor and would get a lot of preferential treatment. We still kicked their a__ our share though!
Q - What were a few highlights of your career?
JIMMY - Another was winning the Mickey Thompson Championship three times ('83, '84, and '86).”
Excerpts from a Nationally distributed ATV magazine comparing the 86’ Tecate, Honda and Yamaha.
MOTOR MOTION
The undisputed king of horsepower; the Kawasaki Tecate, held its crown for '86 and benefited from the numerous engine improvements that were made. We noticed both a significant boost in the midrange over last year's model and in Kawie's always-explosive top end.
COMFORT CONTROL
Basically, riders of all sizes felt comfortable on the Tecate.
CORNERING CONCERNS
The Tecate, true to its pure race form, turned precisely and, using proper throttle and brake techniques, could be put into a picture-perfect slide. The Kawasaki liked to either slide or go straight, nothing in between, exactly the type of handling a skilled racer might want.
JAMMIN' ON THE JUMPS
Many of the testers noticed the light feel of the Tecate in the air and considered it a good flier.
THE BALLOT PLEASE
And the winner of the Race Bike Award goes to. . the Kawasaki Tecate! This tight, light, fast bike will win races, and it doesn't require a whole lot of effort to get the Kawasaki race-ready. Most everyone could sense the precise, tight handling characteristics of this race-bred machine, and they loved it!
RACE VIDEO
Here’s a cool video of an 86’ Championship 3 wheeler race with around 30 Tecate’s which was of course won by a Kawasaki. Enjoy the first 30 seconds as poor factory Honda rider Marty Hart gets SMOKED on the start by a sea of Tecates’, then is literally blown off of his bike buy the horrendous roost thrown at him buy these powerful machines as their as their rear tires spin wildly due to the abundant horsepower produced by its uber powerful engine.

That post was very cool, very well written, and very funny my friend.
I really do appreciate that, and I want to say again, thank you for doing what you have done for the industry that I love so much.
Go Team Green.
Oh for sure, I find that when you upgrade a two strokes power-band, that it is essential to also upgrade the cam-shaft
Apologies to the o.p. but this is entertaining!
^^^Wait...is that the crash that was referred to in the 250R video ATV on Demand did?
Then if you have cooling issue from all the power of that power band, you can always upgrade your water pump by using one out of a '71 VW Super Beetle...
No trikes. Too old, too crippled. Unless I find one I can't live without!
