    Question 86 ATC250r Value

Looking at a 1986 ATC250r 100% original bike. I have only seen pictures and it does look good. He wants $6k cdn for it. Any thoughts on value? I don't want to regret buying or not buying. It's a lot of cash right now but I don't think this type of opportunity presents itself every day. I'm just doing a full restoration (mod) on an 85 and probably have $8k into it with new oem rear fenders (lost track). Everything is new with some aftermarket parts. So when I see $6k for an original it doesn't seem too bad.

    Thoughts?

That's a good looking bike! I have no idea what that is worth in Canada, but it sure is pretty.

Nice clean bike. Around here he will be lucky to get $3000. Nobody wants to spend that kind of money. I've put close to $6000 into my 86 Tri-z and get offers around $1200.

Six grande for a very nice 86 seems a little steep based on the prices I've been seeing on ebay. Closer pictures of the axle, rims, engine cases, etc. would make for a more accurate estimate. It is easy to hid wear with distant pictures. But based on what I can see, I've seen R's in that condition go up to around $4,500 on ebay. Last year I paid 6K for a cherry 89 R, but that's a quad and it's the most sought after year.

Last year I paid $2K for each and 85 and 86 atc 250r. Both atc were ridden less than 5 hrs and by looking at them all paint still there, plastic still shiny, tires have nipples on them, and both still have factory yellow paint on lugg nuts.
I think that is waaaaaaybtoo much for that bike. You are better off buying another atc from a different state and you may get it cheaper.

Cristph so you are the one who bought 1989 trx 250r. Before it was placed on eBay a buddy and me were called to come look at it to see if we were interested in it. We were interested but if fenders did not have overspray so we thought it was overspray. Either me or buddy would have bought it. It is a nice bike and enjoy it and keep her clean she is close to a museum piece.

I can buy 3 of those here for $6000. I kinda feel sory for you guys up north. I probrably have around $7000 or $8000 into my 85 and doubt I could get much more than $3000 for it here.

I think you guys are forgetting that he is in Canada. And location dictates price. Bikes in Canada tend to go for more money. Do I think its a 6k bike, no. What is the average price for 250r's around your area? We have lots of 250rs listed here in Washington for $1300-2000 but most have maier plastic, aftermarket exhaust etc. I value a 100% OEM 250r at $1,000-1500 over what an average R sells for. Hope this helps. Its a nice looking R though

All great replies and helpful. Thanks to all. I will talk to him this week and see if we can make something work. Are any of you selling a mint original 85/86 R? Prefer an 86 as I have an 85 I'm building now.

I'll keep you guys posted on this deal.

Do you know if customs give hassel importing these bikes? I recall they were on the restricted list at one point.

Easiest way to bring them in is to strap it to a crate with a few parts removed. It then becomes a parts machine.
