    Modifying a Cluch/Brake Cable

Have any of you ever modified a brake or clutch cable? I need to shorted the center cable for a project but I don't know where to get the ferrels from. The housing is the right length. I need to shorten the center cable about half an inch and solder a new end on to it.

Aren't the ends on these cables basically lead?

Yes, they are soldered on from my understanding. I am sure there are cheaper kits but the ends are offered.

Now I know what the end is called, thanks very much. I'm going to call the local shops and see if anybody has one.

    Howdy!

if they don't have them look in the yellow pages for auto or motorcycle custom cable or hose mfg's etc..

also call off road truck stores. some of them deal a lot with custom cables and hoses.

also possibly Graingers if there is one near you.
