Honda 250 sx petcock repair question. ( Rivet drilling and size of o-ring)

I have a leaking petcock on my 250 sx when i put it on reserve. I have 2 of these original ones and plan on trying to drill out the rivets carefully and find the right size o ring after so maybe i can ride it Sunday...Just looking for a thread on it and some tips from people who have done this...Do you also drill the rivets out while the petcocks in place on the gas tank so someone can hold it steady...I have a vice but seems like it would get squished....Thanks

Its usually not the O ring that goes bad but the wafer seal .

It drips out as soon as you turn from off to reserve right out the crack...

If you can get it apart the seal needed is the same seal as an 87 trx250r petcock and it's still available threw honda .

Here is my rebuild thread. It is for a 350x petcock, but the 250sx is identical except for the length of the tube (which doesn't change how to rebuild it or the parts you'll need).
