My first 350X.. newest addition to the family.

Picked up a 1985 350X over the weekend. Thanks to some members for tips on things to check and look over... I think I did OK.. and this is not the same trike I posted about last week, found a different one.

No frame cracks, bearings are tight, no leaks, seems like minimal wear on the side cases, shocks are good, good compression - mechanically, I think this trike is solid.

I'm hoping that it will be a great trail machine - I ride my toys, they aren't trailer queens.

That being said, I'll have a few questions about things in this thread as I REALLY go over the trike in-depth and clean it up.

It looks like the frame was painted black at one point? Or did this model come with a black frame/swing arm?

What else do you see that is wrong with it cosmetically, other than the tank color, seat cover, grips, and fork boots?
Thoughts on the rear tires? Better to run something thats worn down a bit for a first time 350X rider?

Also came with an extra DG pipe and full header in addition to the one that's on it. Oh, and also came with a factory manual.

    That trike's a win!

Black frame and swinger are not OEM. Frame was red. Swinger was silver.

Nothing wrong with those tires - just run 'em and spend $$ on other things.

Sounds, and looks, like you made out pretty damn good! Good tires, aluminum swinger skid, two aftermarket exhaust systems, factory headlight guard, factory front master cylinder guard, front fender brace... All that was worth the buy! Enjoy, bud!

Does anyone know what part this is on my carb - looks like spring near the front of the carb that broke at some point...

The trike idles fine and I notice no problems when riding it... just wondering what that spring/part is and if it's really required?

Also, the bottom bolt hole on my oil filter cover was stripped so the bolt never really snugs up well. I have a very very slow oil leak coming from the oil filter cover now. I picked up a complete side cover with oil filter cover, bolts, etc. as well. I'll be swapping that out after trikefest as I don't want any problems before TF!

I like that color scheme, I can't say I remember a black framed X with red plastics & a black seat. Very cool, looks like a winner.
a 400EX carb will pep it up a bit, there's a little work to get it to fit, but IMO it's worth it.

At first I was thinking of taking it back to the stock color scheme and repainting the tank, etc. But now this color scheme is growing on me quite a bit. I think it would look better with black fork boots but for now I'm OK with it. Thanks for the comments! Makes me feel good about the purchase.

Thanks for the tip on the 400EX carb also. We'll see how it performs at Trikefest.
