    2nd Gen coil on a 1st Gen 200X?

well I`m getting bad resistance readings on this coil.

Problem is I need one by TF and I`m afraid it wont arrive in time besides being more than likely Chinese made since I cant seem to locate an NOS unit. I don't want to hang my TF hopes on a cheap ebay coil.

My question is: I have an NOS coil I have never used that is for ATC200, 350X, 250R, 200X 2nd Gen, and it`s also nearly identical to the coil in my XR250.

I looked up the service specs for both Gens and the 2nd Gen has a tighter resistance range for both primary and secondary.

Can I use the 2nd Gen coil on my 1st Gen? I know they don`t bolt to the frame like 1st Gen but I have an extra rubber coil holder for that part number and I would have to change the green wire hookup from the current bolt eye to a female slip-on. Not an issue at all but I didn`t know if they would work.

Also I have an RM Stator CDI box instead of stock if this makes any difference at all.

    Thanks

I've never had much of an issue using coils of different resistance as long as it was a coil intended for a CDI and not a TPI, so my opinion is that it will work just fine.

Does the replacement HAVE to be NOS? If not, i have several good first gen X coils here I could send to you in a hurry.

I just found a coffee can in the shed with another used coil in it. It tests good.

I appreciate the offer, Damon. And regarding my Lifan question, I got home and he had one adjuster 1/4 forward of the other side and thats why the front didn't align with the rear sprocket. We got it squared up. I dont like where the oil dipstick is but with some effort we can still get it off.

I might go ahead and wire up this new coil later on down the road. I noticed this part number seems to be more available and thats something to consider with a 30 yr old machine.

Oh, that's great on both counts then!

Ya, the dipstick is kind of funky, but since the Lifans have an oil sight glass as well, i always break the dipstick piece off and just use it for an oil fill and cap. Makes it a lot easier to remove and replace. Pretty precarious to fill if you dont have the right funnel!
