    atc 110 help

    Hello,
picked up a atc 110 from a friend a few years ago, and decided its time to start work. Has a locked up engine (started stripping it down, gear box seems to spin properly, but will inspect.) I suppose my first two questions are, in the 4ish years it has sat here, we both managed to forget what year, so any help finding a vin number or other identifying factor would be greatly appreciated. Also, where would one go to try and find a preferably paper back copy of a manual for this thing (once the year is identified.) or digital version? I am familiar with two strokes (have an 85 FL350r Odyssey) and have done plenty of wrenching all across the board (cars, trucks, diesels, so on so forth) but would feel way more comfortable with a manual on hand. Pictures will come soon, Busy work load at the moment.
    Thanks,
    elite

The year should be stamped somewhere on the front of the frame. As for paper manuals you can try your luck on ebay or you can try this link. Good luck with your project.

    "Can't", never could do nothing

Easiest way to tell is by if it's points or CDI or by the shape of the headlight

Probably rust seized from sitting up. Start pouring ATF down the cylinder if you can. It helps out a LOT. Trust me!! Lol

But yea. CDI vs points ignition is the biggest thing cause it tells you what year the engine is

    Headlight Schmedlight.

The easiest, ONLY, way to check the year on a honda 3 wheeler.

Look at the neck. 10th digit is a letter. A= 1980, and so on.

Yes, other rules apply to other brands and trikes made before 80.

Please report the finding if you get a chance.

Nailed it, although actually they skip 0, because it looks like o,,,,they switch from letters to numbers every ten years.

Alright guys, here are the promised pictures, let me know if there is anything else you would like pictures of. I did find the vin number and ran it through the vin decoding link on the home page of the board here, and it says i have an 1981 Atc 110. The trike was pretty much complete, i have the other various parts scattered around the garage.

Ok I'll just google how to reconstruct steel that was ground down with a flap wheel because the PO called himself "restoring" them.

    Its probably still there anyway.

The numbers are stamped for a reason. It compresses the molecules in the steel all the way through. There are people that can make it show up.

That's an 82+ engine and front end on an 81 frame if the vin says 81. That's the CDI engine. So, if you went by the vin and bought parts for the engine,, (such as cam, ignition coil, etc) you would get the wrong parts. Tadaaaaaa. It's a CDI engine, has a different crank, cam, flywheel, ignition coil, clutch, and stator vs the 81-79. So, there ya go. Don't rely solely on the VIN on the frame. Even though it IS a GREAT place to start, sometimes it will point you in the wrong directions. So DOHC please don't think I'm just arguing with you to argue with you, but with 110's it's best to go by if the engine is CDI or points.

You are proving my point c.j.

The V.I.N. is the ONLY true indicator of the year of the original bike.

I said nothing about getting parts for things that have been changed on a bike over the years, you added that in yourself.

The discussion was what is the year of the bike.

Its an 81, you know how how I know for sure c.j.?????? Because that's what the V.I.N says it is.

    I'm not arguing. I'm right, so I don't have to. I'm telling.

My 83 200x has a 2011 engine. What year is my bike? haha..

If you go by the V.I.N, you will get the right parts. Apparently his bike has the wrong parts on it, a whole engine it sounds like AAAANNNDD Nevermind cuz I trust pretty much anything shortline says and he says 81 engines have a CDI. Looks like the V.I.N. matches the motor too........

Anyways, i got the piston freed (bike sat with open intake) but the cylinder wont come off, any ideas how to get it off? also, is there any numbers to identify the year of the engine? would like to get it sorted out.
