Picked up a 82 ATC200, got some questions.

I saw a deal on Kijiji and I just couldn't resist. A mostly complete 82 ATC200, save the pull start, with decent tires and well-faded plastics. Second two pics are from the ad, the guy at least cut the grass around it and pulled it out.




Questions: Are the Hondaline front rack and hitch worth anything?
I see Clarke makes a plastic tank, how well does it fit?
While I'm extremely familiar with the XR200 engine, I know little about the auto clutch bottom ends. Any severe weak points I should be aware of? Search turned up nothing.

I can't wait to get this thing going and start riding it to work! It's got spark, compression, and I had a 200X carb from my pit quad project.

Its all worth something to the person that needs it . I bought a '83 200 for $100 just to get the air box lid and a brake perch . then sold it (to cheap ) for $200 . The plastics were perfect , like new . I love the first pic ,,, looks like the start off something good .

It's definitely not gonna a drawn out project, I got a pull start assembly on the way from Snowline Sports in Ontario (Thanks Matt!) and I think I have a line on a cheap rider tank. All depends on what I come up with this weekend.

I'm gonna pull the hitch off and set it aside, but I like the rack already. Makes a great place to hold my coffee mug and tools while I tinker with things that need attention. Overall, this is a fairly clean (albeit dirty) machine, and I'm already getting impatient to try it out. I just wish I had easy access to my modified ALT185 to compare it to.

I woild keep the hitch on it I also never thaught I would use the one on my 125m but now use it all of the time.

It's not that I don't think I'll use the hitch, but I have no trailer to tow with it, and we use the boss' quad to float the track. This will be strictly a fun machine.
However, I think I'll hang onto the hitch for now, cause you never know!

Whelp, shes a runner. Rigged up the tank off my mini quad, stuck a pod filter on and gave her a few pulls. Fired up after a touch of throttle.
Ended up riding it for about 15 minutes, no funny noises, no funny movements, and other than the all down shift pattern, no problems!
Now to fix the broken headlight bracket, so I don't have to run that goofy spotlight

Clarke tanks are OK, but look weird IMHO... Only option now though if your tank is in bad shape. Nice tanks are worth a mint on e-bay, but occasionally you can get a decent one for not so bad a price. Nothing much to go wrong about the bottom ends on the 200's, they are pretty much tanks and everything is pretty easy to fix on the rare occasion something breaks... parts are still plentiful... for now...

Nice find on the 200. I have a few myself, if you stand the rough ride they're a great machine. Pretty simple machine. Clarke tanks fit fine, I personally think they're ugly but everybody is different. Think for $200+ you'll spend on that you'd be happier with finding a used tank off ebay for half the money. Anything from a 185s to 200S will fit, the fill holes are just different. One bummer (if you plan on fixing it up) is no aftermarket fenders are available. Yours appear to be decent just faded, there's threads on here about painting plastics. other 95% of the parts you can find online.

Nothing to worry about bottom ends, have seen and rebuilt some bad ones and bottoms were still fine. Clutches are easy enough to re-do if you have to eventually. Side cover can come off without pulling the motor, just buy new gasket.

See other post you got it going, if you can find a decent headlight that'll be a decent machine.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm not planning to fully restore it, but I'm gonna try my hand at brazing the tank up this weekend and see how the fenders clean up.
I did run into a minor SNAFU on Monday and sucked a choke-plate screw into the engine. Somehow, inexplicably, it's caused extremely little damage. The head is getting cleaned up, and I'm replacing the piston with a Wiseco I think, but the valves and cylinder are both untouched. Got lucky there.

Good atcs, I mean tanks. They're tough machines, clarke tanks fit, ive got one myself, don't really care for the looks myself of that tank.

I can see what you mean! I rode it to work monday morning, and our site is a sloppy mess. One of the other guys got our tracked bobcat 750 buried up to the rad yesterday, and those things go anywhere. I rode my trike right up to the building and parked it in the garage. After work was a different story, but thats my fault.
