You could start by doing a complete teardown and clean / rebuild it. Where is it leaking from?

Your float needle isn't sealing against the seat. Problems could be:

    1. Old crusty hardened rubber tip on the float needle
    2. Damaged or dirty seat
    3. Float is damaged and not floating or not pushing the needle up correctly

As mentioned for some reason the float needle is not seating firmly. Check that the float operates smoothly and freely on the rod that holds it, might be crusty and gunked up. Slide the rod out and scrub with a 3m pad, check the float hinge side also.
