Wow. That's terrible to read, wearing a helmet just doesn't seem to matter to some folks

Tragic. And as always, people will say it's because it was a 3-wheeler. God knows I'm guilty myself. Living in the country, I never wear a helmet when I tear down the gravel in front of my house. I usually only wear one when I deliberately go on a long ride. A mistake, I'm sure.

I don't wear one around the yard, but if I go on a trail ride it's on.

    What a shame.

...and when you do wear your helmet and it takes a good hit, dispose of it properly:

This was at 9:15 a.m. and it very well could have been just a short regular ride for any of us. I've gotten in to the very bad habit of riding my street trike with no helmet lately. Thanks for the reminder.

    May he Rest in Peace.

Tragic for sure. Anyone know him? Wonder if he was a member? I'm guilty like the posts above, caught myself running the alleys without a skid lid. Kept telling myself it's low speed, what could happen? Lots.

I almost never jump on an ATV without a helmet. Condolences to the family.

it's 2014....why is not mandatory to buy a lid when you buy a new toy at least...Feel bad, guarantee that machine will be throw away now due this.

So you think its a good idea to impose laws about what equipment should and should not be forcibly sold or not sold.....hmmmmmm. Maybe it is just me, but I don't think that idea will be very well received here at 3ww.

As far as what happens to the trike, who cares man. If my brother or cousin got killed on a trike I would probably destroy the trike as well, it has nothing to do with blaming the machine either.

Safety equipment is always a good idea when doing dangerous things, but we need to be allowed the freedom to make our own choices on what we wear and when we wear it, not be forced by government to abide by more rules.

Hopefully you feel as bad for the deceased person and his family as you do for the 'trivial-at this point-whether it- lives or -dies' three wheeler.

I actually might have to agree, to an extent. Instead of paying a separate fee though, I think the helmet should come with the machine. But honestly anyone should be smart enough to put a lid on just to be safe

Sad this guy was killed, I hope he didn’t leave any kids behind.

I don’t agree with helmet laws, but with Obamacare will likely come mandated bucket laws in every State very soon. The reasoning will be that a crash victim with a damaged melon costs taxpayer money to keep hooked up to all the beeping machines in the ICU, so if the States balk at making it law the Feds will threaten to cut funding elsewhere.

Myself I think all of us who chose to ride without lids should be commended for willingness to donate our organs. Ya’ll do fill the backs of your licenses out right? Take it all I say, but as one friend put it “Who wants the brain of someone who crashed riding without a helmet? It was obviously defective BEFORE the accident”

Rambling on how many of you have dealt with a human skull that hit concrete and broke apart? I mean close up, touched the mush with your hands? I have once and it’s amazing how thin and fragile your skull is. Like a big egg, and the brain is basically like a bag of pale macaroni. Pretty gross huh? So why would anyone want to put a family member through seeing that while identifying your corpse? Wear your lids, you don’t need the government to tell you.

Organ donor here. As a healthy motorcycle rider in Phoenix, I feel it is my responsibility. Regardless of the headwear, the odds are stacked against us.

When the news says its 115 degrees here, the street says 170. At head level I will guess 130 and higher. No helmet law here. Not wearing one, It's gonna happen. Much more likely to see a pistol for protection than a helmet.

As long as you haven't got little ones to raise ride on bro, but when the day comes that there's a little SOHC in the crib I hope you'll do the right thing. Till then enjoy the breeze through your hair, that doesn't last for ever either!
