    250sx stuck in gear

I got a parts bike 250sx that I was saving for the engine... I strapped on a mower gastank on it last week and have been riding it like that till today I had a little problem today... my little cousin was flying down the street at 50 mph at least and slammed on brakes skidding down the street.. he made a complete stop.. I kicked him off the bike.. (bike was running still in last gear) I tried to downshift to take off... and bike was stuck in gear... I kept trying to get it to downshift but nothing... any ideas?

I have a similar issue right now in sl gear. I recommend taking the side covers off and checking your shifter stops to see if the one on the shift drum is loose and if the other is broke or not.

mine had broke off , the one behind the shifter shaft, and I used a left had drill and backed it out, then made a new stop.

Could also be this part.... hopefully your shaft isn't bent.

Check to see if the shifter moves freely, and returns to center. If it don't spring back, the pin the others talked about is probably broken off. If it does spring back, then the cage in my photo might be broken. If it is a bit stiff, i'd say the shaft is bent.

GREAT writeups and pics on this topic.
Search key for 'sx shift' should get you there.
2 threaded pins suspect. Mine was the pin in the end of the shift drum stopper
    backed out and bent.
The only way to see was to put it in a drill and spin it slowly and look for wobble.
Lay the trike dead level, side cover gasket is always nice.
I just bought both pins, shift brackets etc before I went in.
    Not a bad job.
Read up on it, unplug the phone, and a safe place for the little springs
and chicklets if you have to go in that far.
