Up for sale is a 1985 Honda ATC 250SX only 2nd owner. has six speed manual with revers head light brake light push button start or kick start . runs good starts right up every time, oil and filters have been changed, and bike has been taken care of. A very nice three wheeler for being 30 years old i want 800 dollars for it no lowballers will consider good offers.
Wadda ya'll think? Anything you see I should be wary of? Any major things I need to check for?
Also, I have my dad sold, told him I'd sell the wretched old 82' 200 when its done, for this, but moms kinda not for it, any major points I can push for it? Such as the full suspension and reverse, along with the fact its a better utility machine?
    Thanks,
    "D"

Much better resale value. Full suspension handles better and is safer, I'm not sure about that last one though?

Excellent machine..a few things to check are rear diff and brakes for signs if water entry.

But a solid replacement to the hard tail machines.

My 2nd favourite trike of all them..but then I haven't chosen my most favorite yet! So they are all my second favorite...

He said he's changed diff oil 4 times since hes gotten it, never ran it through mud or water, nor has he ever hot rodded it or ran it hard, he has a cr500 for that. and its just for cruising. I'm thinking I might try to trade him my 200 and 200 or so dollars if he'll go for it. Seems like a nice guy.

HAHAH Doug! You crack me up. Make sure you have all your gears, especially 3rd, which can give out on some of the '85's. It's not too common of a problem. I replaced my shift forks when mine disappeared- it had 3rd gear for close to 3 years, then it dropped out again(I think it might be the drum itself?). Good luck with it & keep us posted!

I've got my mom on board as much as she'll ever be. and I've been talking to the guy, he won't do 600, and I don't have much to beat him down with. So, 700 going to be my cut off.

the shift drum stopper is a common breaking item on these. Otherwise the tranny is a weak point on these machines. If treated nicely they will last a long time. I see the tank has already been replaced with a plastic one. Also whether he's never rode it through mud or water what about previous owners before him. Your best bet is to take it for a test ride checking all gears, and don't be afraid to get on it a little, you will need to or you'll never know if a gear is slipping.
rectum nothin damn near killed them

You've had some crappy luck Gazoo..tranny issues are the worst. However, though there is are some incidences of this I wouldn't consider it a 'common problem'. I mean with 30 years of history there are bound to be a few patterns of failure emerge. Doesn't mean it's gonna happen to them all..

The reason I mention the diff and brakes is because this will happen eventually anyway, seals break down and the rear brakes never were water tight on the 85. Add a damp storage area and a bit of riding and it will happen that much quicker. Even if abuse isn't involved. Way, WAY more common than 3rd gear issues.

In all the 250ES/SX machines I've owned, about 10, I've never had this issue.

But then I don't buy a machine with obvious signs of being beat on either!! A careful eye when buying and don't get to eager to put it in your truck and you can avoid a lot of abuse related problems I think.
