    1986 350x electric start trx350 interchange?

Just had a great time riding my 350x this weekend at st joe st park, however I am walking with a bit of a limp from kick starting my rig. hate to leave it running when we stop with the air cooling and hot weather but man those things are hard to kick over. I have an 84 250r also and it takes half the effort to start, so I usually ride it more! Had some thinking time on my way home and was wanting to ask this question, will an electric start off of a 86-87 trx350 work on my 86 350x. im thinking front cover, flywheel and starter. any thoughts or suggestions. did some reading and I could go with a goki kit but im trying to keep an oem look.

You might want to make sure the decompression is hooked up correctly. Mine does not start that hard. Also your pilot jet could be a little clogged.

Yea, the decompression cable could be maladjusted, makes em harder to start and they're a bear to get right.
Goki starter kits are still popping up on Ebay, and Goki might still be making them, I'm not sure. They come with very thorough instructions and all the hardware, plus a press to get the pinion gear onto your flywheel. It takes a couple hours to install but worth the time.
The only con is the start button. It mounts to the bar clamps & looks kind of silly, my plan is to wire mine(and the lights) to a 400EX swtch.

Like everyone has said, check, and adjust, your decomp cable accordingly. I'm running an 11:1 bigbore and it's not hard to kick over. Okay, maybe not THAT hard, lol. But, once I get it up on TDC, it's just a matter of standing on the kicker until she starts to roll over, then it's a good kick and it's off to the races.

x10 on the decomp cable and x2 on starting on tdc (compression stroke) I have a mod 70 that will rip the pull cord right out of your hand if you just grab and pull. On TDC it is almost effortless to pull and starts right up.

Funny you mention that, because I love watching people grab a pull starter and yank it like it's a lawn mower, or weed eater! Hilarious!!

Getting the kick starter to the right position is critical to starting an X. Also is getting the decomp adjusted right. I just put a Goki on one of my x's. It will not work at all unless you get the decompression figured out. The starter button that comes with the Goki is usless. Get an early 400ex switch. It looks just like a 350x light switch but has a starter button.

I definitely recommend checking the decompression cable. I went ahead and got the Goki since the 350x is the girlfriends ride and she's great at killing it with the back tires in a ditch where it's hard to get a good kick in.

First check to make sure its even functional. Allot of them get broken when folks don't install the right side cover properly after changing the clutch. Push the kick starter down to see if you have movement on the lever at the side cover. Then -what I do- is adjust the cable a little at a time, then start the trike. If it is too tight you will see the lever on the head going up and down, or you may just hear it clicking as if it is barely hitting. Back it off a bit until you don't have any movement or clicking sound while the engine is running. You should be real close at this point.

Also, check your valve lash. If the valves are to tight they can be a bear to start.

They will still start fine without the decomp if the valves are adjusted right, the carb is dialed in and you learn the "sweet spot" on the kick starter position.
