84 200es big red, no spark???

I need help!!!! I am trying to fix an 84 Honda big red 200es and I can't get the thing to spark consistently. if I take the cdi of and "tap" it on the ground it will spark for 1-2 seconds with the plug against the cylinder. I have already bought a used cdi from ebay and it does the same thing. I am wondering if this could be a ground problem or who knows. surely someone on here has seen this before. btw it takes the infamous 969 cdi that seems to be hard to come by. thanks for any help......

I am not a complete expert, but using the shop manuals that are available, have you tested your CDI unit's ohms? If that tests well, have you tested the pulse coil, exciter coils (the stator) and/or the ignition coil? You need the CDI, stator, and the ignition coil all to work to get that spark.
