85 250R rear axle carrier rubbing problem

this is about an 85 250R. anybody ever have this happen. I have an 85 swinger. 85 only lonestar carrier, and 85 durablue axle. As you can see the sprocket hub was rubbing on the carrier. it only rubbed a bit then sheared the alum. and now spins free and will work but still kinda pissed me off. I had this same axle in an oem carrier before with no spacing issues.

Also this lonestar carrier you have to spin up towards the grab bar to tighten the chain, I thought I remembered spinning the oem carrier down towards the ground to tighten the chain ???

right but then the holes you put the adjusting tool in to spin it are on the backside (inside facing forward into the trike), maybe they somehow drilled the holes on the wrong side?

I have a RPM axle in an 86 carrier that was "going" to rub but I caught it on assembly. What I did was take the old center tube from a stock axle and chopsawed a 1/16th collar and butted it to the left side axle journal to shim the axle over just enough to clear it. It did not effect chain alignment and has been fine for over 4 years.

Other things to consider is the center axle tube in your carrier may not be wide enough to space the bearings properly from the factory, or it was a dual row carrier bearing set-up that someone mistakenly installed single row carrier bearings. I would call the carrier company that built it and question them if it was brand new.

I have the exact same combination of parts and mine did the same thing. I just machined off some of the sprocket hub with a Dremel.

Yep I had the same problem I had to clearance the carrier with a flapper wheel. The durablue sprocket hubs are thicker than oem. I run a durablue also.
