Guessing you just pulled the head and not the jug, right?
Guessing you just pulled the head and not the jug, right?
It sucks to get old
no we didn't..
looked thru the exhaust port and rings looked good, inspected cyl wall and no scoring!
I have a spare jug, and im gonna get that bored and honed for a rebuild, thus im leaving my current setup as is
Nailed it!, its very nice you are trying to help, but I have a feeling its not workingThrottle on!
Remember there are many factors in a seizure like-
Piston, rings, bore, wrist pin bearing, wrist pin, rod bearing, and X2 crank bearings, not to mention the cylinder base & cylinder head surfaces and gaskets.

As always- Everything I post is IMHO.
You pulled the manifold and look at the intake side of the piston?
It sucks to get old
yeah that's what you said originally.. now your saying let me guess didn't pull the jug! no im not gonna bother.. I have a spare jug ill send that away to get bored.. not gonna spend another 200$ on boring and honing a good jug.
Just gonna run it as is and slowly work on other jug and order a piston etc.
To be clear I suggested you take a look at either side of the piston BEFORE you said your compression was low. Then when you said you were getting a low reading I suggested you tear the top end off.
At this point, no offence, but I don't even know if you know how to take a proper compression reading. I do know that in cold weather and at less than 800' above sea level it should be over 140psi in a fresh engine like yours, but I'm not going to plead with you to take it apart and look at it closely. No big deal if you vent your cases with a rod, they made lots of ATC's.
So lets just assume that all internal combustion engines occasionally lock up for no reasonIt happens on my new truck the first Monday of every month. Happy trails

It sucks to get old
My first reading was with a Chinese (crap) compression guage.. I got 105 psi! ouch... but someone said by the sounds of my bike it didn't sound accurate as I said It has lots of power and starts 1-2 kicks max!
so I grab a guage from work and got a 141 psi! (rechecked it immediately with Chinese guage and still got 105 psi... then THREW IT IN GARBAGE)
thirdly (just to be accurate) I then used my brother in laws guage and got a 148 psi.. so im in the 140's! and have ABOUT 10 hours or less riding time on it..
hope that clears it up
my bro in laws guage is a MAC tools guage
no offence taken... just wanted to know what it should be reading, being a fairly fresh rebuild.. and appears im in that boat! 140-160
and yes, something is not right.. it locked up in fifth gear as I was winding down from a top speed run.. I got up to about 65 mph, and let off... as I got to about 30 mph she shut off and locked up! I immediately thought the worst.. as I came to a stop I expected it to be locked up.. I then kicked her in the guts and fired up like nothing happened!!!
im guessing its something in the gearbox....
Ive had a snowmobile lock up on me once, and I couldn't start it till a couple hours later as she was locked up good. but the sled didn't run right after the lock up "Top end", THIS is different! bike hasn't changed.. im afraid to hit 5th gear though!
Ive never had the case apart, and previous owner told me he locked up 5th gear once and thought it was top end! hmmm was it..................
