Ready to put my 85 atc250r back together and the top of the wiseco piston has some heavy engraving on it. Should I buff these out or does it matter?

What do you mean when you say engraving? Are we talking scratches or...? If it is something that you think can just be "buffed" out then it is probably fine but why not just clean it up anyway.
Post pics. If it's a mfg stamp run it, it's fine
Its the manufacturers part number and stuff. Just didn't know if it'd be better for it to be gone.

If you plan to set a world speed record it needs to go, but otherwise don't worry about it.
It is the replacement part # for your rings, and part # for your piston. It's all good. Arrow towards exhaust.
