    Atc 200x rebuid questions?

I am rebuilding a few 200x's right now and was wondering if anyone else had a problem with the head gasket? i guess the old style oem gasket leaked oil through the oil pump dowel where the o-ring is? the new oem gasket (metal)i am using can bearly fit the dowel in let alone have room for the o-ring that is supossed to go on the dowel pin. any help on how to properly install the new style head gasket?

also was going to try the high compression piston that requires race fuel? anyone else done this and how did it run and was there any other motor mods needed to run ok?

I have a 12 to 1 pistion in an 86 200x. I run av gas w/ no probs. Donno about other mods required, but put in a midrange cam, titanium valve springs and retainers, cobra pipe and rejetted to match the mods. Runs great and cranks every time I go to it.

if your using the new style head gasket, the metal one doesnt require a "O" ring, it just slides over top of the down pin and your ready to go....(im speaking on behalf of the 83-85 200x's)

    200x build

So i guess what i was saying is do i need to buy a new camshaft to match a high compression piston or will the stock camshaft work fine and have good reliability? thanks for the info on the head gasket. also does anyone know where to get bargains on gasket sets and piston rings?

    Thanks

I bought a wiseco piston and rings a few years ago.....and about 2 months ago i got some Piston Rings for a 200x, and they were 25.00.
as for gaskets......i make my own! everyone except for the head gasket. the stock cam should be fine with the higher compression....just run better gas like 92-94 octane

av gas is short for aviation fuel, it's sold at airports...103 octane I think. I have freinds who have bought it for their hot rods. I haven't tried it in a trike but I'm sure with a highly modded motor it would do some good.
If I can't fix it, it ain't broke!!

    200x

thanks for the input. I kind of though i could use the same cam. I know when you go big bore you want to change cam and valve springs but wasnt sure about the high compression deal? I guess you would not want more fuel in the combustion chamber with less space and higher compression. but the cam duration might make a differance? cant wait till done but i got so mainy prodjects right now. Right now i have a 89trx250r tore down and a nice tri moto and getting a 200m to fix up and i also got a mint 84 200x that a guy wants me to fix the stripped kicker gears wich are inconviently located in the center cases wich require a full tear down. If anyone has several 200x parts and would like to trade i may be interested. I could use a few good cranks to build a few more motors.

For cylinder head work I have used Ritter Cycle Racing (from back of DIRTWHEELS) with good results. I had Rick bore a cylinder and give a 3 angle valve job w/ new seals, springs, and valves. $45 to bore and $50 for the head. He was a little slow, but does good work. Still runs very smoothe 2 years later (w/175-180 psi compression) with lots of hours at full throttle!
