I'm kinda in a pinch here, and was hoping I could get some 2nd opinions before I proceed.
I'm re-assembling my 250ES and when putting the clutch cover back on, found I was having difficulty realigning the reverse shaft. A look through the service manual revealed I wasn't supposed to be having this shaft stuck to my cover, it should be on the engine side, which immediately made sense as that prevents a huge assembly headache.
So simple solution right? I proceeded to attempt to separate the lever from the shaft to assemble the shaft back on the engine side so I can replace the cover properly.
Nothing doing. That booger is freaking bonded on there. I threaded the nut in and gave it some controlled whacks hoping to knock the lever off, how stuck could it be right, it's not that much surface area.... well that probably wasn't a good idea considering I now know there is a oil seal under it. (I didn't see it under some gunk) so that may leak now I'm not sure.
Anyway, I tried some heat (not too hot just a pocket torch till it was a bit more warm than you'd want to touch, sometimes works) Still solid.
So what are my options?
Cut the outside lever arm off with a dremmel and hope I can find another lever arm? (Means I have to wait to get another arm...)
Attempt re-assembly with it on there, and take the chance that return spring does not properly hook around the inside lever, and have a fun time trying to align that cover and not damage my gasket in the process...
Keep beating on it and hope I can find a new seal once I get it out? (May need one anyway at this point.....)
Something else? Thanks for any suggestions. I think I'll soak it in kroil while I think on it.
