Are all plastic gas caps pretty much the same?

    Stupid question:
Squirrels chewed up the gas cap on my yamaha 175 tri moto. Is it gonna be the same thread as pretty much every other atv gas cap or do I need to pay for an original one? It's a simple plastic tank with plastic cap with the breather hose on top.

I checked the parts fiche for an '82 YT175, and the cap fits a bunch of other machines. You can probably score one off ebay cheaply by looking for one off an odd machine. Here's the link to the parts fiche:

I didn't even think to check the parts diagram. I need to remember that is there next time. Funny how it's all 70's and nothing newer than 83, then one 98 and two 2006's.

Yamaha is good like that, they don't re-engineer ANYTHING they don't have to. I just bought an exhaust mount for my 1980 IT425, it also fits YZ's all the way up into the 2000's! They are the ultimate parts-bin manufacturer, its great!
