Chance to get an 85 sx for 900$

The family has 'evolved' to quads and have an sx.
I got guilt tripped into selling an 87 and 85 sx (how many do you need?)
and been kicking myself ever since.

Trying to stay focused here, spending more than I'd like, perhaps it will get me motivated to fix and sell some of the 90/110/185 models and / or some guitars I never play.

They say they fixed a 'shifting problem' with 600$ worth of receipts and has an extra set of original plastics.

Pretty sure I may not get much sympathy and can trust you guys to say "GO for it", early christmas present etc etc. Any and all excuses appreciated.

...so back to my original thoughts?
I get tunnel vision at times like this so what to look for??

    Gear oil in rear axle?
    swing arm bearings for slop?
    Tank for rust.
    all 5 gears and reverse.

    what else?

    Thanks

If it runs good and engine don't make alot of noise, shifts through all the gears, in good shape it sounds like it may be an ok deal. Cant tell without some pictures..Offer him 600 cash and go from there...

It's hard to say if $900 is a good price without pics. A good clean 1985 runner is worth $750 in my book, but that's me. Some pics would and a better description would help in persuasion. Check all of the pivot points for signs of poor lubrication and look for any stupid mods I.e. Ugly paint, spliced wires, engine noise (top & bottom) engine oil level & quality. Ask some good questions, nothing aggressive just basic stuff, what kind of engine oil do you use? What kind of riding do you do? How long have you had the machine? Blah Blah Blah... Let's him feel like he's in a good business deal and you can read him on whether he is genuine rider or a fly by night hustler and act accordingly. And as always when you are buying anything you call the shots not the seller. Good luck...

    Thanks you guys.
No pix but he says it's nice.
I go look at it tomorrow.
Extra rust free tank, extra plastics and wheels and tires..
Yeah, these things are getting wicked hard to find.
Been looking within 100 miles for over a year now and just found
searchtempest.com which checks the whole country for CL and ebay so that
should get me more of a reality check on rarity.
Also impressed with a site I just found called atv4sale.pro.
Not sure if it's an auction site or wha??
    Interesting Canadian listings too.
Best advice? do not sell any if you don't have to.

I'd be finding out the condition of the extra plastics as well. New in the bag possibly?
