Want thoughts on running 1985 250r w/o airbox?

I was wondering if anyone is running their atc 250r without the air box. I didnt know if you could do away with the air box and run a k&n, or a green dick (foamy) airfilter. I know there is not alot of room in the frame for much.I know some folks run with out the lid. Do you think it would make a big difference in horsepower gains. Any input would be appriciated. Thanks Glenn Oister. Oh by the way I am running my 250r with air box and lid and k&n filter

make sure you have a filter on there. i would stay stock air box with k&n. it keeps the dirt out of your engine.

    thats what i run.

I personally don't like K&N's on off road vehicles. They dont filter air nearly as well as a foam filter does. I run my 250R with the air box lid on with an oiled foam filter. For winter use I swtiched in my K&N with an outerwear because I ride on ice, and I pop off the air box lid sometimes, but I got a bunch of show in there last ride. My machine being a little bit slower is definatley worth it to me instead of replacing pistons and rings every year.

had that setup on mine for about 3 days, after riding in weeds and stuff the filter was packedd with seeds and grass after a short while so i switched back to the airbox. I have never had a lid on mine and ive had it for 13years.

I've been running my R without an airbox for about 6 months. I use a K&N filter with an outerwear. I've not had any problems, all though for snow riding I'm thinking of putting the box back on without the lid.

The clamp on filter will work the same as an airbox without the lid. I say take off the cover and maybe holesaw a few vents on the airbox. This will protect your filter from the elements better than just a clamp-on while flowing just as much air. I plan on running with not lid on my Tecate.
