Starter reduction gear washers

Just picked up an 85 250sx. I also have an 86 250es at our cabin. As I am going through the SX, I am finding little issues here and there. Notably a reduction gear issue. In the manuals for the SX and the ES the location of the washer in the gears is different. In addition the schematic for the SX shows the washer in a different location than in the close up for reduction gear section. I take mine apart and it is missing the washer and has weird wear on the outside of the gear closest to the starter gear.

On my ES the washer goes on the shaft with the c clip gear on the outside facing the cover itself. Is this how it is on the SX?

If so then why do I have weird wear marks on the gear closest to the starter teeth, the non c clip gear? The wear is on the outside closest to the cover as well. I can add pics later.

Can anybody verify the location of the washer of the SX and please tell me I am not crazy about the SX manual being conflicting. Check pages 9-0 and 9-2. They are showing the washer in 2 different places, or it is not clear at all.

NO one has an SX that can chime in on where the washer goes in the reduction gear case? Or if there is even a washer?
