    Another 250r Build.

This story starts out when one day I was just out putting around my track with a friend and broke a piston. Now with the bike down and winter soon approaching, I thought about changes. I plan on doing some racing next year, what changes would benefit me? Shorter swingarm, small tires?

I could go with a 450r swingarm, 04-05, that would get me an inch shorter and modern cheap parts. Shorter swinger, problem solved.

Next up, tire options. What would give the widest range of tire options? Regular old axle? NO! Kart axle with almost infinite about of ajustments. But how could I get that to work? I got it, my good buddy Ed Bergman that went to Ashtabula, OH and kicked with his kart axle equiped Tri-Z!
After lots of texts and phone calls, I had a plan. Time to start ordering parts. First the bearings.
    Wil they work?
    Yes they will!
    Test fitting.

Ok, next problem. Stock shock and linkage. It will work, but if I get it as low as I want, the linkage is too low. Now what do I do? Ah ha, I have a 200x shock! Time to test. No go, too short. Hum? Ah ha, 350x shock will work! Now I am waiting on a shock, so to be continued………..

Rebuild, shorten and revalve the stock shock, I would do a spring mod as well.

I may eventually get that done. But not wanting to spend the money on that right now. The 350x shock will work well enough for tt and ft.

Pardon an ignorant question: whats the reason for wanting a shorter swingarm?? Seems like it would be a little tougher to control when going sideways through a turn?? I have never raced so I am clueless...just curious.

    Very cool stuff Steve!

A shorter swingarm moves the tires closer to your butt for better weight transfer for more traction. And a shorter wheelbase will turn faster.

If a longer swingarm makes it harder to turn, a shorter one makes it easier.

And as bonus, the 450r swinger is 3 lbs lighter

I have a short track kit to help with slide control. This is a picture of it now. I am just fitting things up. You can see how much more the front tire turns. (That is not the front tire I am going to use)

What should the top speed be? I am thinking this is my favorite project to watch now! Hope to see some video of you racing this creature! Thanks for sharing, appreciate it.
