    electrical issues

    How's it goin everyone? Aight I've had my bike,84 Yamaha 225dx, about 6 months and finally have the extra change to get a new battery on it, it didn't have one when i got her but it has the button and from what i can see all the wireing for an electric start. here's my problem it dosnt seem like there is any juice gettin from the battery to anywhere not my lights the starter anything. is there a coil of some sort I'm missing? There isn't any broke wires that I've noticed. TIA for any and all help.

    No there isn't a key just the start button.

    You need a test light or volt meter to test the circuit. Check for a blown fuse, verify that you have a good ground connection.
    After that check for power at the switch, if none found trace the wire back to the battery, by checking for power at the next wiring connection.

    Test light volt meter use the meter and ohm all the circuits to make sure there complete if u can't find a break any where find the starter relay and cross it with a screw diver and see if it spins the starter to rule out it being bad or not

    You need an ignition switch to use the electric start. Without the switch fire isn't getting to the starter button on the left handle. I know what wires to connect on Honda trikes but have never done it for my Yamaha. There should be 3 or 4 wires that would connect to the ignition switch. 1 is hot, 1 is ground, 1 runs your left hand switch, and if there is a fourth I cant remember what it does. Connect your hot to the left hand panel wire and you should have fire. When you are done riding don't leave it connected as it will drain your battery.

    Thanks ill get out the test light my next day off. Ill look into getting an ignition switch as well. i appreciate the hrlp trouble shooting ghe problem i will up date this thread with any progress.

    Well heres the update... some one needed that battery more than i did. Literally as soon as i hit send on the last post my wife called and said some one broke into my shop and releived me of several things including the brand new battery. ppl thanks anyway for the help
