My cousin just rebuilt his 250R and decided to "Break-In" the motor the way a friend of his recommended. So, instead of running the first tank at about 1/2-3/4 throttle, he guns it wide open in Neutral for a few minutes, then takes off Balls to the Wall down the road. About 45 min later my cell rings and it's him. So I picked him and the trike up and sure enough, the motor has become rock solid (and had a red glow-I'm thinking he was running kinda lean too). So long story short, we're gonna crack it open and see how bad the damage is.
So anyway, what is the proper way to break in a motor? I always thought 1st Tank 1/2-3/4 Throttle, and change the Oil after. Then slowly work it up to full throttle after about 10-15 hours. What do you all think?
