    First ATC 70

So I went to the Pomona CA swap meet this past Sunday with intent to buy some old Saginaw transmissions and Chevelle a arms for our dirt track cars. Transmissions were scarce but I did find something that turned my day around. Tossed to the side amongst some pitted chrome moldings and a bumper for a Cutlass was this little Gem. I knew right away I had to rescue it. I've wanted a 70 for some time but when they come up for sale near me they bring a premium. I scored this thing for just shy of 500 It's more than I wanted to pay but I couldn't leave it there all alone amongst the dismembered car parts.

It’s an 84 all OG (from what I can tell) except for the seat cover 85 tank and rear wheels and tires it has a pink and purrs like a kitten. You guys think I made out alright ? Any advice on things to watch for or check out on it? This is my first 70 and my only experience with these or similar is a CT70 I had as a kid.

I think you did well for $500, a) it runs, b) the pull start is there and c) those rear rims are aftermarket. I'm a bit concerned that it's showing telltale signs of a slightly bent frame. It could just be the camera angle? Turn your front wheel until the fender is as close to the acorn nuts as it can possibly get. If yours are less than say 1/2" I'd say the frame is tweaked slightly. Don't worry it's an easy fix if it is.

Things to look for, rusty tank, loose bearings front and rear, control cables sticking and maybe a stretched chain. They're pretty simple and parts are readily available. Your steering stop is bent outwards; I like to bend them back and weld a little bracing there.

Thanks coolpool I would of never thought to check for the frame being bent. This weekend I'm going to give it a tune up and a once over on everything. I'll pull the tank and check the backbone while I'm at it. I've already gone a little eBay crazy rear decal, new seat cover, and a petcock are on the way. I'll post pictures when I get it cleaned up.

Yeah Motorgidd a runner with no pink usually grabs about 4 or 5 around here depending. But in Cali getting a untitled bike registered is nearly impossible. There is a another one like this for 375 by me with no pink right now. I've had to pass on some nice ones becasue of this issue.

I think you did real good, every time I find a deal like that it's already gone or to far away.

8686 those are very nice. I hope mine comes out that clean when i'm done. Where did you get your tall bar setup? I've seen a few companies sell them but not sure who's to go with.

I bought the bar kit and many other parts from www.atc70.com. No complaints.

So I've done some work to the little guy. Seat cover, decal, Carb kit and fuel lines, Pull rope "it snapped a few rides in" also bent the stop back so the forks don't hit the tank and put a used OEM front fender on it.

Still looking for a tall bar kit if anyone knows of one. I emailed Sterdy as most of their products say out of stock and have gotten no response.
