250es and 250sx probably the best, can lift them and all that good stuff, next would be 200's. The best thing if you plan on deep riding is build yourself a snorkel and run all your vent lines up it, can go as deep as your snorkel will allow as long as you don't tip it over

any machine with a sealed final drive is preferable along with a high intake and exhaust
yeah as chop said an exhaust stack also helps out a lot. With smaller displacement engines they don't produce enough exhaust pressure to idle under the water as an 800cc quad would. If you let off the throttle under the water it will most likely stall and then you could be sol

That's not true all my 200's will float in the water about 4 ft deep and idle all day. So back pressure on the 200's are fine.
And while its floating the exhaust is completely submerged? Cause my 300 fourtrax doesn't idle under water, hence why theres an exhaust stack on it.

Yes the exhaust was submerged. The only reason I have ever stalled in water was because of a cut in my sparkplug wire.
My ATC is faster than urs
Also check out the95jeepmonsta on YouTube there's a couple 200es a trx200es in a fairly deep gravel pit pond lol. There's a few videos and we also built a chariot to pull behind lol.

You might be strong as an ox, but without a cart you are just a big dumb animal.
My 200es didn't do to good, but my DX is excellent in water.
You just better make sure that all your seals and gaskets are in good shape, it only takes water getting in one spot to mess something up.
