    85r rear caliper question

I have always had pads put on by my mechanic. I realized when I pulled my caliper apart last time to grind off where my rotor is little short so my pads wear until the top hits and will not close any further. Anyway a brake caliper on these trike have a two pin system. On mine it has a hook on one side and a hole on the other. Only pads I can find that look the same on the Web is front pads from trx 250r. Has anyone ever made this conversion... The previous owner must have changed mine to this... I can post picks because I'm not 100% sure that it is a caliper from the front of a trx 250r. It looks like one but I don't know if it would mount up right...

ATC250r rear pads are like you describe, a hook on 1 end and a hole on the other... Like these from RMATV...

These fit the front and rear. Been running them for years. The ones with the hook are for the trx front calipers. Sounds like you have a non OEM caliper ..

Yeah I thought the ones with the hook were trx fronts... All the ones I find one eBay and Amazon are just like the ones i showed... Somehow I have trx fronts caliper on the rear of my 85r... PO must have did that... Also explains that my mechanic raced trx 250rs for years probably the reason he had the pads for it in stock

Yes, I am very wrong on this... I apologize for my misinformation. What I failed to remember was that I have a front caliper off a YZ250 on the rear of my R which in fact use a similar style with a hook end. Listen to Mosh on this one.

Your brake rotor isn't too short, it's having the wrong caliper on there that's causing your loss of rear braking power.

I just take a little air grinder to it when they touch... The brakes work very well so I will probably keep the setup for now... The good thing is trx fronts come in sets of 2 for around the same cost as one set of rear pads

Based on the remaining shape of the pads, that the rotor doesn't touch, just grind that portion all the way down to the metal backing plate, then the 2 pads will never touch again. That's a nice 2 for the price of 1 deal there though.

So what is holding the caliper from rotating forward if it is an 85 swingarm? Is there a stay rod connected from the caliper bracket to the swing arm? Got a side view pic?
