Tell me everything about a 185s!!

I have one and want to know how everything is, has worked (aftermarket) and how to make it beat blasters, yes blasters. mine seems pretty close but the blasters rider is kinda husky (240-270). So tell me everything. Thanks Kaysen

no any way i dont think it would take alot because the 185s is almost the same as the 200s wich i used to own and could keep up with a blaster top end speed wise but i did keep up a blaster is going to kill u on take off though.

your best bet is to through a 83-85 200x top end on your 185s it will bolt right up also use the 200x carb its slightly larger and then put an after market pipe on it a good pipe to go with that is soem what cheap would be COBRA.

i actualy have a complete 84 200x top end but i already have soem one that is going to buy it lol its all fresh too no hours at all all rebuilt with a 40 over cylinder and a rebuilt head with no hours at all on them.

but yeah if you want to keep up thats what id do put a complete 83-85 200x top end on the 185 engine and open the exaust and intake up a bit you can also by a higher duration lift cam for the 200x top end and a high compression piston.

I love the old trikes as much as the next guy.
The 185s was pretty cool, I used to have one "back in the day".

If you are serious about taking down the Blaster, well, um....... You really need to just get a differant trike.

The money you would spend making a 185s competitive (in speed only) with a blaster will buy you a nice 200x or '83-'84 250R.

Enjoy your 185s for what it is and use the right tool for roosting the Blaster.

two days ago I bought a cobra full exhaust system, cobra is the only company that offers a headpipe, I also got a uni air filter and I am gonna rework the carb. I have found that Weisco makes a high compression piston, and webcam makes two different cams, one is a mild recreation cam, the other is a somewhat wild (for an 83 185s) motox and drag cam. If I could only find some old mags it seems this threewheeler was the 400ex of its day. One of my friends used to race a 185, he said that he won more races on it than all of his 250r's, now i'm not trying to compare my 185 to the 250's out there, but from some research i have found that these can be made pretty quick. the way that I see it, is that there are several better than the 400ex (ds650, banshee, raptor, every cannondale, z400...) , and just the same was the 185s, there were some better than it, so I think that they are pretty similar. Just think, if you were in 1983, didnt have the money to buy a 250r or a 200x or any other truly sport model, you might just settle for the little 185 in the corner, much the way with the 400. Kaysen, these guys have thrown out some pretty good ideas for you. Should be enough to at least point you in the right direction. As for giving up on the 185s project and getting a 200x, I have to disagree. A 250r would definitely roost the blaster with no probs, but the way I see it, it would give you more personal satisfaction to roost the guy with your 185. I say go for it!!!

I have both a 185s and an 83 200x, and they're quite competetive with each other. The only thing you'll gain by putting a 200x top end on the 185 is a little more lift and duration on the cam, and a slightly larger bore. The best way to get those upgrades is to just bore your current cylinder to 192cc (same as 200x), use an aftermarket piston kit like a wiseco 10.25:1 (increase your compression ratio), and put a 200x, xr200, or xr200r cam in your rocker box. I also have an aftermarket pipe (bissanni) and a 200x carb (24mm) on my 185s. If you go up to an xr200 or xr200r carb (26mm), you'll have to use the xr intake boot and just run a filter off the carb without using your stock air box because the xr intake comes off at the wrong angle for the 185 air box. Your gearing also will make a big difference. I'm using the stock rear sprocket, and a 12 tooth (stock 200x) front sprocket. If you're not worried about the hole shot, and have a good bit of distance to take the blaster with top end speed, you could even bump the front sprocket up to a 13. Don't forget that your rear tire height also plays into the gearing scenario. Taller tires will give you more top end, and shorter tires will give you less top end. So, if you're running 18" tires, you should probably run the 13 front sprocket to keep good top end speed.

The 185S is really one heck of a trike. I could wheelie that thing all day long, and it did good donuts too It was pretty peppy for its size. It would pass our '82 Big Red 200 Without a problem, when he takes off a couple seconds before me! With a K&N filter, Cobra or DG exhaust, nice tires (Wooly Boogers, Kenda Scorpions, Turf Tamers) really make it one hell of a trike. A 200X topend and carb would really wake it up.

I really had no idea about the 200x topend fitting on my bottom end, the things you learn. Anyone else got anything different?

The "S" of my knowledge is for suspension, may be wrong but who knows.

In my opinion a utilty has no suspension, racks, and a ripped seat, whereas mine has suspension, no racks and or a ripped seat. Therefore I think of it as a sport threewheeler. Prime cantidate to hop up and race/play with. Kaysen

No i'm not saying that mine has rear suspension, but it does have front. In a way I guess it does have rear with 3lbs of air in the tires, and a soft seat. That is all that I need, I guess.

How much HP would going to a 192 bore @ 10.51 compression give me? Would it be the same as a 200x? I am also wondering what a good cam is? Has anyone ever used a webcam? How were they? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks, Kaysen
