What is the internal rotor ignition system? Pros and con's of an internal rotor system? Is this the pvl type/brand? Pros and cons on the 86-87 tecate and/or experience with pvl type in general please.

Yes- PVL is a brand that makes a internal type ignition set-up. There are/were other manufactures

    Pros-
    More aggressive ignition map
    More power
    Hotter spark
    Less flywheel effect
    More RPM's
    Less plug fouling
Some thing to tell your buddies about
    Its trick
    No CDI box
    Less traction

    Cons-
    Needs to be set-up
Not as good as a modern digital ignition
Can slip timing if it is not checked or loctited
    Less flywheel effect
Many need to change the spark plug heat range
    They seem to rust more
Can not use a flywheel weight
    Less traction
    Most had No light coil

That's what is on mine then, now I can say yeah it has an IRI. I read you have to use a dial indicater to find tdc and use a degree wheel to set them up. It runs good but i havent been able to ride it. I had recently read in a thread where a guy said that he wouldn't use an IRI. They were talking about Tecate high performance mods on stock bore cylinders. Pretty much pipes and carb/reeds and a light porting too. Anyone added a pvl and would you do it again? I might go with a newer kx 500 system and add BIG light! Again dreaming! I read stuff in forums that says a kx500 ignition would work by adding a lighting coil to the kx500 setup. My Kaw E guy seems very busy so its nice to ask questions here. Great p&c list onformula1, that list spelled it out tip to toe!

They have a great website that may help-

    http://www.pentonracingproducts.com/...structions.pdf

Many guys back in the day ran a 1987 Kawasaki KX250 ignition set-up, but you must run a modified stator for lighting, many use a Rickey Stator lighting set-up.

I would run it, if you don't like it there may be some guys on this forum that may swap you for a stock set-up.
