    tube or a seal?

    I had to take my 1982 honda atc200 big red tire off today. The old tire which was a 2-ply wouldn't plug anymore. I have a 25x12-9 swamp lite tire to put on. The problem is its a 2 piece split rim. The old seal was bad and fell apart when I removed it. I can't get a new front wheel because aftermarket 9 inch wheels with a 4/150 bolt pattern don't have the correct offset. All I could find was an ITP steel wheel with a 3+6 offset. And it was on ebay. Can't get them online on a powersports store. So the dilemma is either to run a seal and pray the tire holds air or run a tube. Tubeless is indeed better as I can plug a hole without removing the tire. Tubes need to be removed and patched. Just want to know what other users do with their split rims. Thanks

    I've got split rims on my 70s and 90s, and I just tube 'em. like you, I'd rather not, but if you can't get the rims, what can you do?

    What kind of seal is it, by the way? On the one's I have had it's an O-ring, and as far as I remember, you can still get those.

    Most times just getting a new oring for the split rims and a good amount of oring grease will seal it up just fine. Just make sure your sealing surfaces are super clean
    Mixing gas and haulin' ass

    The split rims can be made to hold air, with either replacement O-rings, or I've also laminated vinyl shower liner material and made gaskets, and with whichever, coat them with gasket sealer, and let it set up for a few days before airing them up. I slather the gasket sealer on the entire mating surface of both rims also. The gasket sealer stays somewhat flexible and can reseal itself. Also, LEXEL sealer (comes in a caulking gun tube) works wonders, but not fun to remove if you need to.

    I would use a o-ring like the stockers did.

    I have seen o-ring that were so small you needed tweezers to pick them up to 6' in diameter.

    i will try the seal then. I just bought a new o ring for the rim halves
