need opions and info on 250r

I found this 250r for sale and immediately wanted to pull the trigger due to the price. But after reviewing the pics he sent me it seems like a complete bastarized 250R. States it is an 86, but the shrouds appear to be 85. The rims are not original nor is the headlight or front fender. I don't what kind of swingarm is on it either. Then I realize the chain is on the wrong side, he said it actually has an air cooled motor on it. It's really hard to tell by the pics, but does anyone see anything of value on this machine or is it just a bunch of mixed and matched parts? Seems like it would be way more work than its worth to try and put back to an 85. Thanks in advance.

looks like a 3rd gen with a different motor in it, some kind of 81-84r or maybe air cooled cr motor? Everything about it is 3rd gen, but the motor, looks as the the pipe is too, I recall aircooled pipes on on the the side. Where is the rear brake?????

I have looked at the pics 3 times now... Just about the time I think I might have it figured out, I'm lost again... I swear I see cooling fins behind that pipe.. Which is on the correct side for a 3rd gen by the way. But the fargin chain is on the right side..and yet it looks like it has radiators...

Looks like quite the franken-trike to me. Not something I would be remotely interested in.

Unless you want to part it out, I would probably pass on it. I

Looks like an 85 frame and forks with a homebuilt swinger, 84 motor, and a custom pipe (to utilize stock 3rd gen mounts?...lol). No cammex cylinder on that one so radiators are for show? Jeebus.

Looks like radiators are on it yet. Almost look like you can see fins on the jug. Not sure what front fender is off of. Id like to know if swingarm is home made or something valuable. Glad I'm not the only one confused on this thing. Id be willing to possibly buy if there is a slight chance someone is looking for an air cooled motor and has a water cooled to get rid of..but then still left with whatever swingarm and axle it has

It definitely has a air-cooled 250r motor in it. Look at the chain, its on the wrong side for a watercooled motor. Looks to be 84 with 3rd gen tank, rads, exhaust and seat and rear plastic. Why they have the radiators on there I have no idea, maybe the aftermarket watercooled 83-84 250r head?

I do see the linkage.. But can the carrier simply be installed backwards to run right-side chain and left-side brake?? I suppose one could rig up a brake stay on the left side and chain slide mounting on the right.... But this doesn't look like the kind of build that the builder would be too concerned with such frivolities.

And just looking at the kicker location, it is absolutely not a 3rd gen R engine...

Unless I'm not seeing the diamond in the rough...

I passed on it, too many unknowns and seems like I'd be opening a big can of worms w/ it.
