Imperial invasion 2015 was hard on my 85 250R. I broke one of my aux LED mounts (aluminum was too thin and fatigued), my base gasket gave up (weeping but not sucking air and no death-rev), and my shock reservoir mount died and let the reservoir bounce all over until I "fixed" it with tie wraps for the week.

Since I had a hard time finding info and good pictures about this, here's how I addressed the reservoir problem.

For those that don't know, one of the differences between the 85 and 86 R is the reservoir mount. The 86 bolts on but the 85 is welded on.

I decided to put an 86 mount on my 85 rather than try to weld up the old mount.

Schmidty Racing makes a nice aluminum mount for $50. https://www.schmidtyracing.com/product-p/atc-b-hon.htm.

The stock res mount is held on with 8 spot welds. It's kind of an open cube shape and one side has a nut welded on it to mount the upper chain slider. The Scmidty mount uses the same hole as the chain slider.

The good news is it's easy to drill out 6 of the 8 spot welds. However, it's hard to get a good shot at the last 2 on the bottom. I removed the shock and airbox to get at it with my 4-1/2 cutoff wheel.

This is the initial damage (well sort of - I already repaint the spot) - you can see the holes for the welds at what's left of the old mount after I convinced it to get off my frame:

Another shot of the location - note the bigger center hole - this is the mount for the chain slider and needs to be opened up for an M8x1.25 bolt. The hole is drilled for an M6 but the Schmidty mount is threaded for M8x1.25. I used a 5/16" bit. I believe I used a 25mm long bolt. I dug one out of the collection that worked:

This is the SRS mount ready to go in. I assume an 86 frame is slightly differently shaped and you can see the SRS tag but it gets hidden on my 85.

I like this because it's not blatantly obvious I snuck an aftermarket part on my 85 and it was easier than me booger welding the old mounts.

The SRS piece is a nice chunk of aluminum and fit's like it was made to go there - I guess it sort of was but I'm not sure how the 86 is different from the 85 here.

Oh crap - I got a little sloppy with the overspray - I'll have to go back in to address that. And my red doesn't match but it's close enough.
