1985 Honda atc 250r carb replacement

is this a good stock carb replacement for an 85 250r?

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-ATC-25...23e284&vxp=mtr

I also have twist throttle.. will I need a diff cable? Also will I need to change jets?

Looks like it might be a China carb, might be ok but I'd buy a brand name myself

Chinese knock-off carbs are sketchy and I would not run one on any of my machines unless I had no other option.

Spend the money and get a Keihin. You know you are getting a quality carb.

That eBay add doesn't say 85 anywhere, it only says 86???? I dont get that? What about a rebuild kit for $30? I would hate to throw $130 bucks away to china just to be disappointed in a crappy carb. Maybe just wait and add a couple more dollars and get a quality carb like an air striker carb? You're half way there. You'll be much happier

I am not sure about the throttle setup as far as what you need to run the twister.. But PWK carbs (which is what the Air Stryker is) require a different cable than the stock cable on the 250r. ESR sells them as well as a few other 250r oriented shops.

The cable ESR sells is for the thumb throttle: http://www.eddie-sanders-racing.com/...le%20cable.htm

IDK what you need to run the twist. Might be looking at an application for a dirt bike that came with a PWK carb. I don't run twist throttles, so I don't know what to recommend to you on that aspect.

As to jetting: Some shops like ESR and others will "pre-jet" for you based on your engine setup you provide them. This usually will get you in the ballpark. Always check jetting yourself and make changes as needed. It's a good idea to get an assortment of jets along with your new carb. I always use genuine Keihin jets myself.

Yes what ride red said. That site also has some nice stuff like billet parts that you won't find on eBay.

actually the stock cable that was used on 85 atc250r works perfectly on 38 a/s and 39 pwk.

if you want a twist on these carbs, use a twist and cable from almost any cr125 or cr250, just make sure it uses a kehien carb. Not sure, but alot of yamaha used the same carbs and alot of ktms do also. Infact I use cr 125 cables on my ktm 2 strokes. My 98 200exc uses almost exactly the same as a 38 a/s stock, stock carb on 07 250xc is nearly identical to what is used on a yz250, later year ktm 200's used nearly same carb that is used on many 125's. Kawasaki was the only one to have a twist throttle stock on trikes, 84-87 kxt250's.
