Might be crud in the carb jets, maybe an airleak at carb boot or intake, throttle adjustment, carb slide return spring, internal air leak. Leak test the motor.

Does the carb have to have an air filter

You might want to check to see if the slide in the carb is down on the idle screw and make sure the idle screw isn't screwed all the way in. That is usually where I start first. Awesomedad

I just picked up a couple 1982 Yamaha tri moto YT175 2 strokes one was just for parts the other one i just got put together. I got the one to start but the carb was dumping fuel everywhere so i took the carb off and adjusted the float. Now it wont start at all not even with starting fluid i ordered a new carb for it and still nothing. it has great spark still any ideas of what to do?

Might have fuel trapped in the crankshaft cavity, can flip the bike upside down with the spark plug removed and crank it over until it’s all removed .
Pretty common on 2 stroke motors when the float valve is stuck open .
Also did you do a compression check ?
    Check the reeds ?
    New spark plug ?

Go to the auto parts store and buy a compression tester .
You need at least 100 psi to make it run .

Google how to use it .
