Anyone mounted an XR200 carb to their 200x ?

So I've the intake and carb from an XR200 bolted up on my 200x

It fits perfectly.

However, the outer diameter on the carb where the intake boot slides over is the same size as the outer diameter of the intake boot.

The boot won't slide over the carb (its also not quite long enough to reach for whatever reason).

I was wondering if someone had a solution i could copy.


My current idea is to find a rubber hose (radiator hose?) whos inner diameter is the same size as the outer diameter of the carb boot and carb and use that as a coupler.

I'll take pics when I'm home tonight.

I think I had to slide the whole airbox forward . Will look tonight and make sure that is what I did.

ahhhh.. interesting..

I can't get myself to argue against myself on the coupler idea. seems like it would work?

but if finding that magic piece of hose that it would take to make this coupler proves too complicated, i like where you're heads at with sliding the airbox forward.

also, do you remember what jetting you used?

I mounted an XR200 carb and manifold on my 200S, I soaked the boot in really hot water for several minutes and then slid it on the carb. I'm not sure of the difference between the carb diameter of the 200X and the 200S, but it can't hurt to try.

EMT electricians pipe has a few sizes that work well.

Mine was not an 83-85 200X but I just made my own intake flat plate (I used .1875 or 3/16ths) and then welded the correct length to it to make it fit. Use yellow/red (backhoe/heavy truck) type of hose. If you have a flat sander you can angle it up/down/left or right.....

If it's the rear, boiling it does help or a heat gun.

O course a lathe can help allot with proper sizes but I lived without one for years and had to get creative... Dremels, belt sanders etc. etc.

I keept the 200x intake,with the xr200 carb.But for this you need a spacer between them to align ole.If I remember correctyl,the air hole on the 200x is offset vs the mounting hole.but the xr200 isn't.It's why I have a aluminium spacer.It's some years ago.....but the air filter tube fit right without mod....

Did you think the power increase was worth the hassle?

I just picked up a gorgeous 200X for my wife a few weeks ago. A 1985 model.

I thought it was going to be a lot less powerful, A real dog.... It does great though IMO.

Super E'fin fun to ride and an easy handler.
