The other Hobby: Tractors and Plow Day

Had a great day for Plow Day and SCHLENKER FARMS in Ionia NY. The ground there is like a giant sandbox and very
easy to plow.....also easy to get stuck in. A day when the Deere, Cubs, Horses and others all play well together.

Real garden tractors have been a dying breed. Most people think they are only useful for pushing a mower deck around....then again, today's "garden tractors" aren't built like they used to be

Loved this post and the pics link. Thanks.

All these old garden tractors are tough machines. I've got a 1970 Bolens 1053. Only 10hp, but I know it'll out work any modern 20hp anyday.

I have to admit I've never seen a garden tractor doing actual "tractor" type work. I would never have guessed they would have enough snort or traction to roll over 2 or 3 furrows. Thanks for posting!

There were two newer X595 John Deere diesel tractors there with 4x4 and they were out plowing everyone. Cheating with that 4x4 they were.
I think they could have pulled that two bottom plow without any problem at all. Longevity though?

You can see one in the background of this picture. The X595s had their turf tires on as well. If they had lugs they definitely would out plow everyone.

When they get going through the tough stuff they will snort and let you know they are working, but no problems pulling the 10" plow at all with my Yellow John Deere 316. The soil here is
very sandy and at one part of the field it was like a sandbox, so soft that some of use would get stuck. Other fields around here are a little tougher, but they still pull through without
any troubles. Even the little 110s from the 60s can pull. Lots more pics from the different plow days in the link below.

My neighbor when I was growing up had a blue and white Sears garden tractor. He had a decent sized garden that he used it on.
